495. Verses 5, 6. And the angel took the censer, and filled it with the fire of the altar, and cast it upon the earth: and there followed voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and earthquakes. And the seven angels having the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound." And the angel took the censer, and filled it with the fire of the altar," signifies the conjunction of celestial love and spiritual love; "and cast it upon the earth," signifies influx into the lower parts, where those were who had to be separated and removed; "and there followed voices, and thunderings, and lightnings" signifies reasonings about good and evil, and about truth and falsity, arising from a disturbance of the affections and thence the thoughts; "and earthquakes," signifies changes in the state of the church. "And the seven angels having the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound," signifies changes taking place in their order by means of inflowings (per influxus) out of heaven.
