513. 'And they went up into heaven in a cloud' signifies the taking up into heaven, and conjunction with the Lord there by means of the Divine Truth of the Word in the sense of its letter. By 'to go up into heaven' is signified the taking up by the Lord into heaven, as just above (n. 512). Here it also signifies conjunction with the Lord there, because 'they went up in a cloud', for by 'a cloud' is signified the sense of the letter of the Word (n. 24) and by means of this 'there is conjunction with the Lord and consociation with angels'.
