I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, signifies that they may know that the Lord is the God of heaven and earth, and that all things in the heavens and earths were made by Him, and are governed by His Divine Providence, and are done according to it. That the Lord is "the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End" and that thereby is meant that by Him all things were made, and are governed and done, and more may be seen above (n. 13, 29-31, 38, 57, 92). That the Lord is the God of heaven and earth is evident from His words in John:
Power is given to Me over all flesh (John 17:2). And in Matthew:
All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth (Matt. 28:18);
And that all things were made by Him, that were made (John 1:3, 14). That all things which were made or created by Him, are governed by His Divine Providence is evident.
