159. That the Lord alone has life is clear from the following passages in the Word:

I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth on me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. John xl. 25. I am the way, the truth, and the life. John xiv. 6. The Word was God....In Him was Me; and the life was the light of men. John i. 1, 4. The Word in this passage means the Lord. As the Father hath life in Himself, so hath He given to the Son to have life in Himself. John v. 26. That man is led and taught by the Lord alone is clear from the following passages:

Without me ye can do nothing. John xv. 5. A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. John iii. 27. A man cannot make one hair white or black. Matt. v. 36. By a hair in the Word is signified the least of all things.
