144. The general things in the body are the heart and the lungs. Their actions inflow into all parts of the body, organs, viscera, and members. In the mind, it is the will and the understanding that are the general things. The general things there look to the individual things as their parts from which it subsists; and the general looks to the parts from which it exists.* * There is a crossing out in this sentence, from which a confusion has arisen. Possibly Swedenborg meant to write, "The general things there look to the individual things as their parts from which they exist, and the parts look to the general from which they subsist," which would agree with what is said elsewhere.
