10424. 'And worshipped it, and sacrificed to it' means that they worship that delight as essential good and as essential truth. This is clear from the meaning of 'worshipping' as worshipping as essential good; and from the meaning of 'sacrificing' as worshipping as essential truth. The reason why the verb 'worship' has reference to good which is an attribute of love, and the verb 'sacrifice' has reference to truth which is the substance of faith, is that wherever good is spoken of in the Word, so too is truth, on account of the heavenly marriage present in every detail there, see in the places referred to in 9263, 9314. Regarding the verb 'sacrifice', that it has reference to truth, see 8680, 10053; and regarding the verb 'worship', that it has reference to good, this is evident from those places in the Word in which it is used.
