1099. Verse 27 May God enlarge Japheth, and he will dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan will be his slave. Japheth', as previously, means a corresponding external Church. 'May God enlarge Japheth' means the enlightenment of that Church. 'And he will dwell in the tents of Shem' means so that the internal features of worship may be present in the external features. 'And Canaan will be his slave' means here, as previously, that people who make worship consist solely in external things are able to perform inferior services.
