THAT THE MEMORY OF PARTICULARS, WITH THE PRIDE THENCE DERIVED, IS GRIEVOUS AT THE FIRST ENTRANCE INTO THE OTHER LIFE Everyone takes along with him into the other life the natural disposition which he has acquired in the life of the body; thus also do those who have an extensive memory, and glory in it and desire to make a display. This memory thus blown up is as it were a callosity which adheres externally, and must in course of time be softened.
