309. 6327. .. :* The outward or outer person is the life of the body. The inward person is the life of the lower mind. The very inward person is the life of one's will, arising from the understanding, or the life of the understanding coming from the will. The innermost person is the life of one's soul. All these lives follow one after another. The last or outer life dies first, after that the inward life. Thus the very inward life remains, and the innermost. Then "the root is turned" and "it bears fruit" [II Kings 19:30]. Now these latter are meant by the "remains" or the "remnant" which "shall go forth out of Jerusalem" [verse 31], namely, those who are like the more inward person, whose will has been so far reshaped as to love and strive for nothing else than what pertains to God the Messiah and His Kingdom. These then must be the "remnant out of Jerusalem." [Outer; Fruit; Inner; Hand; Root; Regeneration; Remains; Write] * The sign here is two circles with a horizontal line through both of them.
