DEUTERONOMY 8
You shall take care to observe every commandment which I give you today, so that you may live and multiply and go in to possess the land which Yehowah promised to your fathers. 2 And you shall remember all the way in which Yehowah your God has led you these forty years in the desert, to humble you and prove you so as to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. 3 And he humbled you, and let you hunger, and fed you with manna which neither you nor your fathers knew, so that he might make you know that man does not live only by bread, but man lives by all which proceeds from the mouth of Yehowah. 4 Your clothing did not wear out on you, and your feet did not swell, those forty years. 5 So you shall consider in your heart bow Yehowah your God disciplines you, as a man disciplines his son.
6 And you shall keep the commandments of Yehowah your God, walking in his ways and fearing him. 7 For Yehowah your God is bringing you into a- good land, a land with brooks of water, with springs and wells, gushing out in valleys and mountains; 8 a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig-trees and pomegranates; a land of olive oil and honey; 9 a land in which you will eat food without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose mountains you can dig copper. 10 And you will eat and be satisfied; and you shall bless Yehowah your God for the good land which he has given you.
11 Take care what you do, or else you will forget Yehowah your God by not keeping his commandments and regulations and statutes which I command you today. 12 Or else when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built fine houses and lived in them, 13 and when your herds and flocks have multiplied, and your silver and gold have multiplied, and all that you have has multiplied, 14 then your heart will be lifted up, and you will forget Yehowah your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the home of slavery, 15 who led you through the great and terrible desert with its poisonous snakes and scorpions and drought, where there was no water, who brought you water out of the rock of flint, 16 who fed you in the desert with manna which your fathers did not know, so that he might humble you and prove you, to do good to you in due course; 17 and then you will say in your heart, My power and the might of my hands have gained me this wealth. 18 But you shall remember Yehowah your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, so that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as at this day. 19 For if ever you forget Yehowah your God, and walk after other gods and serve them and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will certainly perish. 20 So you will perish like the nations which Yehowah destroys before your face, because you would not attend to the voice of Yehowah your God.
