DEUTERONOMY 27

Now Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, and said, Keep all the commandments which I give you today. 2 And on the day when you cross the Jordan into the land which Yehowah your God gives you, you shall set up large stones, and cover them with plaster. 3 Then you shall write on them all the words of this law, when you have crossed over to enter the land which Yehowah your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Yehowah, the God of your fathers, has promised you. 4 So when you have crossed the Jordan, you shall set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command you today, and you shall cover them with plaster. 5 And there you shall build an altar to Yehowah your God, an altar of stones; you shall not employ any iron tool on them. 6 You shall build the altar of Yehowah your God with whole stones, and on it you shall present burnt-offerings to Yehowah your God; 7 and you shall sacrifice communion-offerings, and eat them there; and you shall rejoice before Yehowah your God. 8 And you shall write on the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

Then Moses and the Levite priests spoke to all Israel, and said, Be silent, and listen, O Israel; today you have become the people of Yehowah your God. 10 Therefore you shall obey the voice of Yehowah your God, and observe his commandments and statutes which I give you today.

And Moses commanded the people that day, and said, 12 When you have crossed the Jordan, these shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin; 13 and these shall stand on Mount Ebal to curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. 14 And the Levites shall speak, and say with a loud voice to all the men of Israel:

Cursed is the man who makes a carved or cast image, an abhorrence to Yehowah, the work of a craftsman's hands, and sets it up in secret. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

Cursed is he who dishonours his father or mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Cursed is he who removes his neighbor's landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Cursed is he who makes a blind man stumble on the road. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Cursed is he who perverts the regulations relating to the settler, the fatherless, and the widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Cursed is he who lies with his father's wife, for he has withdrawn his father's cloak from her. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Cursed is he who lies with any animal. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Cursed is he who lies with his sister, a daughter of his father or of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Cursed is he who strikes his neighbour down in secret. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Cursed is he who takes a bribe to strike down an innocent person.* And all the people shall say, Amen. * lit a person of innocent blood

Cursed is he who does not confirm the words of this law by deeds. And all the people shall say, Amen.
