Now these are the generations of Esau: he is Edom. 2 Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, Oholibamah the daughter of Anah, the grand-daughter of Zibeon the Hivite, 3 and Basemath the daughter of Ishmael, the sister of Nebaioth. 4 And Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau; and Basemath bore Reuel; 5 and Oholibamab bore Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah. These were the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.

6 And Esau took his wives and his sons and daughters, and all the persons of his household, and his cattle and all his animals and all his goods which he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went into a land away from his brother Jacob. 7 For their substance was too great for them to live together; and the land where they had settled could not hold them because of their cattle. 8 And Esau lived on Mount Seir; Esau is Edom.

9 And these are the generations of Esau the father of Edom on Mount Seir. 10 These are the names of the sons of Esau: Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, and Reuel the son of Basemath the wife of Esau. 11 And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz. 12 And Timna was a concubine of Eliphaz the son of Esau; and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These were the sons of Adah the wife of Esau. 13 And these were the sons of Renel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were the sons of Basemath the wife of Esau. 14 And these were the sons of Oholibamah the daughter of Anah, the grand-daughter of Zibeon, the wife of Esau; and to Esau she bore Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah.

15 These were the chiefs* of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn of Esau: chief Teman, chief Omar, chief Zepho, chief Kenaz, 16 chief Korah, chief Gatam, chief Amalek; these were the chiefs of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these were the sons of Adah. * Heb 'aluph, that is the head of a family or of a thousand men

17 And these were the sons of Reuel the son of Esau: chief Nahath, chief Zerah, chief Shammah, chief Mizzah; these were the chiefs of Reuel in the land of Edom; these were the sons of Basemath the wife of Esau. 18 And these were the sons of Oholibamah the wife of Esau: chief Jeush, chief Jaalam, chief Korab; these were the chiefs of Oholibamah the daughter of Anab, the wife of Esau. 19 These were the sons of Esau, and these were their chiefs; he is Edom.

20 These were the sons of Seir the Horite, the inhabitants of the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 21 Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. These were the chiefs of the Horites, the sons of Seir in the land of Edom. 22 And the sons of Lotan were Hon and Hemam; and the sister of Lotan was Timna. 23 And these were the sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. 24 And these were the sons of Zibeon: both Aiah and Anah; he is the Anah who found the mules* in the desert when he fed the asses of his father Zibeon. 25 And these were the children of Anah: Dishon, and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah. 26 And these were the sons of Dishon:** Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Keran. 27 These were the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan. 28 These were the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. 29 These were the chiefs of the Horites: chief Lotan, chief Shobal, chief Zibeon, chief Anah, 30 chief Dishon, chief Ezer, chief Dishan. 31 And these were the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the sons of Israel. 32 And Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom; and the name of his city was Dinhabab. 33 And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah from Bozrah reigned in his place. 34 And Jobab died, and Husham from the land of the Temanites reigned in his place. 35 And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the fields of Moab, reigned in his place; and the name of his city was Avith. 36 And Hadad died, and Samlah from Masrekah reigned in his place. 37 And Samlab died, and Saul from Rehoboth on the river reigned in his place. 38 And Saul died, and Baal-hanan the son of Akhbor reigned in his place. 39 And Baal-hanan the son of Akhbor died, and Hadar reigned in his place; and the name of his city was Pau, and the name of his wife was Mehetabel the daughter of Matred the daughter of Me-zahab.

40 And these were the names of the chiefs of Esau, according to their families, according to their places, by their names: chief Timna, chief Alvah, chief Jetheth, 41 chief Oholibamab, chief Elah, chief Pinon, 42 chief Kenaz, chief Teman, chief Mibzar, 43 chief Magdiel, chief Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession; he is Esan the father of Edom.
