EXODUS 6

*And Yehowah said to Moses, Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for with a strong hand he will send them away, and with a strong hand he will drive them out of his land. * In the printed text, this verse is connected to and part of the last paragraph in the previous chapter.

2 And God spoke to Moses, and said to him, I am Yehowah. 3 And I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as God Shaddai; but by my name Yehowah I was not known to them. 4 And also I established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they lived as settlers. 5 And also I have heard the groaning of the sons of Israel whom the Egyptians hold in slavery; and I have remembered my covenant. 6 Therefore say to the sons of Israel, I am Yehowah, and I will bring you away from the labours of the Egyptians, and I will rescue you from their forced labour; and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment. 7 And I will take you to myself as a people, and I will be your God; and you shall know that I am Yehowah your God, who brings you away from the labours of the Egyptians. 8 And I will bring you to the land about which I raised my hand to give it to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage; I am Yehowah. 9 And Moses spoke in this way to the sons of Israel; but they would not listen to Moses because of their anguish of spirit and cruel slavery.

10 And Yehowah spoke to Moses, and said, 11 Come, command Pharaoh king of Egypt to send the sons of Israel out of his land. 12 But Moses spoke in Yehowah's presence, and said, See, the sons of Israel have not listened to me. How then will Pharaoh listen to me, since I am a man with uncircumcised lips? 13 Then Yehowah spoke to Moses and Aaron, and gave them a command about the sons of Israel and about Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt.

14 These are the heads of their fathers' houses. The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Hanokh, Pallu, Hezron, and Karmi; these are the families of Reuben. 15 And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakhin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman; these are the families of Simeon. 16 And these are the names of the sons of Levi in the order of their birth: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. And the years of Levi's life were one hundred and thirty-seven years. 17 The Sons of Gershon: Lihni and Shimei, by their families. 18 And the sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. And the years of Kohath's life were one hundred and thirty-three years. 19 And the sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the Levite families in the order of their birth. 20 And Amram took Jochebed his father's sister for his wife, and she bore him Aaron and Moses. And the years of Amram's life were one hundred and thirty-seven years. 21 And the sons of Izhar: Korah, Nepheg, and Zikhri. 22 And the sons of Uzziel: Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri. 23 And Aaron took Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab and the sister of Nahshon, for his wife, and she bore him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 24 And the sons of Korah: Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. These are the Korahite families. 25 And Eleazar, Aaron's son, took one of the daughters of Putiel for his wife, and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers of the Levites by their families.

26 It was Aaron and Moses to whom Yehowah said, Bring the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their hosts. 27 They were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt, in order to bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt: it was the same Moses and Aaron.

28 And on the day when Yehowah spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, 29 Yehowah spoke to Moses, and said, I am Yehowah; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say to you. 30 But Moses said in Yehowah's presence, See, I am a man with uncircumcised lips, so how will Pharaoh listen to me?* * In the printed text the first paragraph in the next chapter is joined with this paragraph.
