EXODUS 20

And God spoke all these words, and said, 2 I am Yehowah your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the home of slavery.

You shall have no other gods before me. 4 You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any form which is in the heavens above or on the earth beneath or in the waters under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I Yehowah your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons, even on the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, 6 and showing mercy to thousands who love me and keep my commandments.

You shall not take the name of Yehowah your God in vain; for Yehowah will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

Remember to keep the sabbath day holy. 9 For six days you shall labour and do all your work; 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to Yehowah your God. On it you shall do no work, you and your son and your daughter, your male and female slaves, and your cattle, and the settler who is within your gates. 11 For in six days Yehowah made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore Yehowah blessed the sabbath day, and sanctified it.

Honour your father and your mother, so that your days may be prolonged in the land which Yehowah your God gives you.

You shall not commit murder.

You shall not commit adultery.

You shall not steal.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.

You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, his male and female slaves, his ox and his ass, or anything which is your neighbor's.

Now when all the people observed the thunderings and the lightnings, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking, the people looked up and trembled, and stood far off. 19 And they said to Moses, You speak with us, and we will listen; but do not let God speak with us, or else we shall die. 20 Then Moses said to the people, Do not be afraid, for God has come to test you, to the end that his fear may be before your faces, so that you do not sin.

So the people stood far off; and Moses approached the pitch darkness where God was. 22 And Yehowah said to Moses, This is what you shall say to the sons of Israel: You have seen that I have spoken with you from the heavens. 23 You shall not make images of me; you shall not make gods of silver and gods of gold for yourselves. 24 You shall make an altar of earth for me, and sacrifice on it your burnt-offerings and communion-offerings, your flocks and herds; in every place where I cause my name to be remembered, I will come to you and bless you. 25 And if you make for me an altar of stones, you shall not build it with shaped ones; for if you use your tools on it, you profane it. 26 And you shall not go up to my altar by steps, so that your nakedness may not be exposed upon it.
