EXODUS 22
If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it or sells it, he shall repay five of the herd for the ox, and four of the flock for the sheep. 2 If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguilt for him; 3 but if the sun has risen on him, there shall be bloodguilt for him. The thief must make repayment; if he has nothing, he shall be sold for his theft. 4 If what is stolen is found alive in his hands, whether it is an ox or an ass or a sheep, he shall repay double.
If a man causes a field or a vineyard to be grazed, by sending in his cattle, but they feed in another man's field, he shall make repayment from the best in his own field and from the best in his own vineyard.
If fire breaks out and catches in thorns so that a stack of corn or a standing crop or a field is consumed, he who kindled the fire shall make full repayment.
If a man gives his neighbour silver or vessels to guard, and it is stolen out of the man's house, then, if the thief is found, he shall repay double. 8 If the thief is not found, then the owner of the house shall be brought to God to see whether or not he has put his hand to his neighbor's goods.
For every matter of transgression concerning an ox or an ass or a sheep or clothing, concerning anything that is lost, of which one says, This is what happened, the case of both of them shall come before God; he whom God condemns shall repay double to his neighbour.
If a man gives into his neighbor's care an ass or an ox or a sheep or any animal, and it dies or is injured or is carried off, and no one sees it, 11 an oath of Yehowah shall be between them both, to see whether or not he has put his hand to his neighbor's goods; and the owner shall accept the oath, and the other man shall not make repayment. 12 But if it has indeed been stolen from him, he shall make repayment to its owner. 13 If it has been torn to pieces, he shall bring it as evidence; he shall not repay for what has been torn.
And if a man borrows anything from his neighbour, and it is injured or dies, its owner not being with it, the man shall repay in full. 15 If its owner was with it, he shall not repay; if it was hired, it is accounted for in its hire.
And if a man entices a virgin who is not betrothed, and lies with her, he shall pay the marriage-price for her. 17 Even if her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay silver according to the marriage-price for virgins.
You shall not allow a sorceress to live.
Whoever lies with an animal must be put to death.
He who sacrifices to the gods, except to Yehowah alone, shall be utterly destroyed.
And you shall not wrong a settler or oppress him, for you were settlers in the land of Egypt. 22 You shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child. 23 If you do indeed afflict such a one, so that he cries out to me, I will certainly hear his cry; 24 and my anger will burn, and I shall kill you with the sword; and your wives will become widows, and your sons become fatherless.
If you lend silver to my people, to one who is destitute among you, you shall not be like a creditor to him, nor shall you charge him interest. 26 If you ever accept your neighbor's clothing as a pledge, you shall return it to him before sunset; 27 for it is his only covering, it is his clothing for his skin, in which he sleeps; and if he cries to me, I will hear, for I am merciful.
You shall not revile God, nor curse a ruler of your people.
You shall not delay to offer from the fulness of your corn and the outflow of your wine. You shall give the firstborn of your sons to me. 30 You shall do the same with your oxen and your sheep. For seven days it shall be under its mother; on the eighth day you shall give it to me.
And you shall be men who are sanctified to me. And you shall not eat flesh torn in the fields; you shall throw it to the dogs.
