4. [36.] IV These things are confirmed by all the things which precede, especially in I, and also in this.

[37.] That in adults, the beginning of justification is from the preventing grace of God, through Jesus Christ, that is, from His calling. They are disposed to convert themselves to their own justification, by freely assenting to and cooperating with that said grace; that man can reject grace; yet he is not able without the grace of God to move himself, etc. Whence it is said, "Turn ye to me, and I will turn to you," we are admonished of our liberty.
