89. RELIGION (Religio).

Conjugial love is according to the religion (131-135, 140-144 [CL 130, 238-243, 531]).

It is from religion (see above, CONJUGIAL LOVE, and MARRIAGE OF GOOD AND TRUTH, OR SPIRITUAL MARRIAGE).

The marriage of good and truth is in each single things of the Word, the church, and religion; wherefore that marriage makes one with the church and religion with men (393-397 [CL 128-130, 516]).

Hence it follows that conjugial love with men is altogether according to the states of the church and of religion with them (398-401 [CL 130-142, 238]).

Therefore everyone has heaven according to his conjugial love (402-406 [CL 77]).

The state of the church is interior according to the acknowledgment of the one God, and at the same time to a life of love (450-453).

The state of the church is internal with those who go to the Lord, and shun evils as sins (shown, 454-463).

They alone have love truly conjugial who are being received into the Lord's New Church or the New Jerusalem (464-526; especially 516-521 [CL 43, 534]).

Conjugial beatitudes, satisfaction and delights can be given only by the Lord, and to those who go to Him (1030-1041 [CL 335, 336]).

Consequently they can be given to those only who are of the Christian Church; and it is in consequence of this that it is not allowable for Christians to marry more than one wife (1042-1050 [CL 337, 338]).
