4631. CONCERNING PAUL. I spoke with Paul [to the effect] that he wishes to be the introducer [into heaven], and that the Lord should receive those whom be might introduce; which is absurd, since introduction is not from arbitrary pleasure, but from the life, which no one knows but the Lord. I stated, that, if he had understood the Word according to the letter, this should be the office of Peter, to whom were given the keys of the kingdom of the heavens; and, thus, that he would be stealing from him. He said that he wanted to steal this away from him, and appropriate it to himself, because he had labored more. Paul has an utter aversion to Peter, and says that he [Peter] understands nothing, and so has no power.
