7. By the Church of the present day it is declared, in the words of Paul, that faith enters by the hearing of the Word; and some add, by a certain meditation from the Word. But by this is to be understood that truths ought to be drawn from the Word, and that man ought to live according to them. Then man approaches the Lord, who is the Word and the Truth, and receives faith; for all truths are from the Word, which is spiritual light. Thus faith is acquired; because faith is of truth, and truth is of faith, and nothing is to be believed except truth.
