8. There are numberless evils interiorly in man; yea, there are numberless evils in each several lust. Every lust of which man becomes conscious is a mass and heap of many things. These man does not see, but only the one mass. When, therefore, man by repentance removes this, the Lord, who sees the interior and inmost things of men, removes those interior things. Unless, therefore, man approaches the Lord, he labours in vain to purge himself. The case herein is the same as that described in the Memorable Relation concerning Turtles (see THE TRUE CHRISTIAN RELIGION, n. 462).
