LEVITICUS 10
Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer, and put fire in it with incense upon it; and they offered unholy fire in front of Yehowah, which he had not commanded them. 2 And fire came out from Yehowah and consumed them, and they died before Yehowah. 3 Then Moses said to Aaron, This is what Yehowah spoke, when he said,
I will be sanctified among those who come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified.
So Aaron was silent.
4 Then Moses summoned Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said to them, Come near, carry your brothers away from the sanctuary, right away from the camp. 5 So they approached, and carried them in their tunics right away from the camp, as Moses had said. 6 And Moses said to Aaron, and to Eleazar and Ithamar his sons, Do not shave your heads, nor tear your clothes, for you will not die, for God is angry with all the congregation; but let your brothers, the whole house of Israel, lament the burning which Yehowah has kindled. 7 But you shall not leave the door of the tent of meeting, or else you will die; for the anointing-oil of Yehowah is on you. And they did just as Moses had said.
8 Then Yehowah spoke to Aaron, and said, 9 Drink no wine or strong drink, neither you nor your Sons with you, when you go into the tent of meeting, or else you will die; it is a perpetual statute throughout your generations. 10 So you shall distinguish between what is holy and what is common, and between what is unclean and what is clean; 11 and so you shall teach the sons of Israel all the statutes which Yehowah has spoken to them through Moses.
12 And Moses said to Aaron, and to Eleazar and Ithamar, his sons who were left, Take the grain-offering that remains of the fire-offerings to Yehowah, and eat it unleavened beside the altar; for it is most holy. 13 And you shall eat it in a holy place, because it is your due and your sons' due from the fire-offering to Yehowah; for so I am commanded. 14 And you shall eat the breast that is set aside and the thigh that is reserved in a clean place, you and your sons and your daughters with you; for they are given as your due and your sons' due from the sacrifices of communion-offerings by the sons of Israel. 15 They shall bring the thigh that is reserved and the breast that is set aside with the fire-offerings of the fat, to set aside an offering before Yehowah; and it shall be for you and your sons who are with you, for a fixed due for ever, as Yehowah has commanded.
16 Now Moses diligently sought the goat of the sin-offering, and he saw that it had been burnt; and he was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, the sons of Aaron who were left, and he said, 17 Why have you not eaten the sin-offering in the holy place, for it is most holy, and God has given it to you to bear away the iniquity of the congregation, to make a reconciliation for them before Yehowah? 18 See, its blood was not brought inside the sanctuary; you certainly should have eaten it in the sanctuary, as I commanded. 19 Then Aaron said to Moses, Look, today they have offered their sin-offering and their burnt-offering before Yehowah, and such things as these have happened to me! So if I had eaten the sin-offering today, would it have been right in the eyes of Yehowah? 20 And Moses heard it, and it was right in his eyes.
