DEUTERONOMY 14
You are the sons of Yehowah your God; you shall not make cuts in yourselves or any baldness on your forehead* for the dead. 2 For you are a people who are holy to Yehowah your God; and Yehowah has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. * lit between your eyes
3 You shall not eat any abhorrent thing. 4 These are the animals* which you may eat: the bull, the sheep, and the goat; 5 the deer, the gazelle, and the roebuck; the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the mountain-sheep. 6 And every animal which has a parted hoof, having a cleft between the two hoofs, and chews the cud, among the animals, you may eat. 7 But you shall not eat any of those which only chew the cud or only part the cleft hoof: the camel, the hare, and the coney; because they chew the cud but do not have a parted hoof, they are unclean for you; 8 and the pig, because it has a parted hoof, but does not chew the cud, is unclean for you. You shall not eat any of their flesh, nor touch their carcasses. * The identification of many of the creatures named in this chapter is uncertain
9 From among all that are in the waters you may eat the following: all that have fins and scales you may eat. 10 And all that do not have fins and scales you shall not eat; they are unclean for you.
11 You may eat all clean birds. 12 But these are those which you shall not eat: eagles, ossifrages, and ospreys; 13 gledes, falcons, and kites after their kinds; 14 all ravens after their kinds; 15 owls, nighthawks, seamews, and hawks after their kinds; 16 little owls; great owls, and horned owls; 17 cormorants, vultures, and pelicans; 18 storks, and herons after their kinds; hoopoes, and bats. 19 And all winged swarming things are unclean for you; they shall not be eaten. 20 Every clean Winged creature you may eat.
21 You shall not eat anything which dies a natural death; you shall give it to the settler who is within your gates so that he may eat it, or else you may sell it to a foreigner; for you are a people who are holy to Yehowah your God.
You shall not cook a kid in its mother's milk.
22 You shall always tithe the entire yield of your seed, which the fields produce year by year. 23 And in the place where Yehowah your God will choose to make his name dwell, you shall eat before him the tithe of your corn, new wine, and oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks, so that you may learn to fear Yehowah your God always. 24 But if the road is too long for you, so that you are unable to carry it, or if the place where Yehowah your God will choose to put his name is, too far from you, when Yehowah your God has blessed you, 25 you shall exchange it for silver, and bind up the silver in your hand, and go to the place which Yehowah your God will choose. 26 Then, you shall give the silver for whatever your heart desires-for bulls or sheep, wine or strong drink, or whatever your heart asks of you-and you shall eat it there before Yehowah your God, and you and your household shall be glad. 27 And you shall not forsake the Levite who Is within your gates, for he has no portion or inheritance with you.
28 In every third year you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce of that year, and store it within your gates; 29 and the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the settler and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates, shall come and eat and be satisfied, so that Yehowah your God may bless you in all the work of your hands which you do.
