DEUTERONOMY 25
If there is a dispute between men, and they come for judgment, and the judges decide between them, and they acquit the one in the right and condemn the one in the wrong, 2 then if the one in the wrong has incurred a penalty of beating, the judge shall make him lie down and be beaten in his presence, with the number of strokes proportionate to his wrongdoing. 3 He may give him forty strokes, and no more, for if he continues to beat him with more than these, your brother will be degraded in your sight.
4 You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain.
5 If brothers live together, and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead one shall not be married outside the family to a stranger; her husband's brother shall go in to her, and take her to himself as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her. 6 And the first son whom she bears shall succeed to the name of the dead brother, so that his name is not wiped out from Israel. 7 But if the man does not desire to take his brother's wife, then his brother's wife shall go up to the gateway to the elders, and say, My husband's brother refuses to perpetuate his brother's name in Israel; he will not perform the duty of a husband's brother to me. 8 Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak to him; and if he stands firm and says, I do not desire to take her, 9 then his brother's wife shall come to him in the presence of the elders, and shall remove his sandal from his foot, and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say, So shall it be done to the man who will not build up his brother's house. 10 And in Israel his name shall be, The house of him who has his sandal removed.
11 If men fight with each other, and the wife of one comes up to rescue her husband from the hands of the one assaulting him, and puts out her hand and seizes him by the private parts, 12 then you shall cut off her hand; your eye shall have no pity.
13 You shall not have two weights in your bag, a large and a small. 14 You shall not have two measures in your house, a large and a small. 15 You shall have a full and exact weight; you shall have a full and exact measure; so that your days may be prolonged in the land which Yehowah your God gives you. 16 For everyone who does these things, everyone who does iniquity, is abhorrent to Yehowah your God.
17 Remember what Amalek did to you on the road as you came out of Egypt, 18 how he met you on the road, and cut off at your rear all who lagged behind you, when you were faint and weary; and he did not fear God. 19 Therefore when Yehowah your God has given you rest from all your enemies round about, in the land which Yehowah your God gives you to possess for an inheritance, you shall wipe out the memory of Amalek from under the heavens; you shall not forget.
