EXODUS 8
25 And seven days went by after Yehowah struck the river.* 1 Then Yehowah said to Moses, Go to Pharaoh and say to him, Thus says Yehowah, Send my people away so that they may serve me. 2 But if you refuse to send them away, then I will plague all your country with frogs. 3 And the river shall swarm with frogs, and they shall come up and enter your house, and your bedroom and your bed, and the houses of your servants and your people, and your ovens and your kneading-troughs. 4 So the frogs shall come up on you and your people and on all your servants. 5 Then Yehowah said to Moses, Say to Aaron, Stretch out your hand with your rod over the streams, the rivers, and the pools, and make frogs come up over the land of Egypt. 6 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. 7 And the magicians did the same by means of their secret arts, and brought frogs over the land of Egypt. * In the printed text this verse is joined with the first paragraph in Exodus 8.
8 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron, and said, Entreat Yehowah to take the frogs away from me and my people; and I will send the people away so that they may sacrifice to Yehowah. 9 And Moses said to Pharaoh, Do me the honour of saying when I shall entreat for you and your servants and your people, so as to cut off the frogs from you and your houses, so that they may remain in the river only. 10 And he said, Tomorrow. Then he said, Let it be as you have said, so that you may know that there is no one like Yehowah our God. 11 And the frogs shall leave you and your houses and your servants and your people; they shall remain only in the river. 12 Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh; and Moses called to Yehowah about the frogs which he had brought on Pharaoh. 13 And Yehowah did as Moses said; and the frogs died in the houses, courtyards, and fields. 14 And they gathered them into heaps, and the land stank. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was a respite, he made his heart stubborn, and would not listen to them, as Yehowah had said.
16 Then Yehowah said to Moses, Say to Aaron, Stretch out your rod and strike the dust of the land, so that it becomes lice throughout the entire land of Egypt. 17 And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and struck the dust of the land, and it became lice on both man and beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout the entire land of Egypt. 18 And the magicians tried to do the same by means of their secret arts, so as to produce lice, but they could not; and there were lice on both man and beast. 19 Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, This is the finger of God. But Pharaoh's heart remained obstinate, and he would not listen to them, as Yehowah had said.
20 Then Yehowah said to Moses, Get up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; see, he will he going to the water. And say to him, Thus says Yehowah, Send my people away so that they may serve me. 21 But if you will not send my people away, then I will send flies* on you and your servants and your people and your homes; and the homes of the Egyptians shall be full of flies, and also the ground on which they are. 22 But on that day I will isolate the land of Goshen, where my people live, and not a fly shall be there; so that you may know that I, Yehowah, am in the midst of the land. 23 And I will put a distance** between my people and your people; by tomorrow this sign shall occur. 24 And Yehowah did so; and the flies came very objectionably into the houses of Pharaoh and his servants, and throughout the entire land of Egypt; and the land was ruined because of the flies. * Heb 'arobh, that is a particularly noxious fly ** As LXX, Vg; MT redemption
25 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron, and said, Go and sacrifice to your God within the land. 26 But Moses said, It would not be right to do so, for we would sacrifice to Yehowah our God what the Egyptians abhor. Then if we sacrifice before their eyes what the Egyptians abhor, will they not stone us? 27 We will go a three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice to Yehowah our God as he will instruct us. 28 So Pharaoh said, I will send you away so that you can sacrifice to Yehowah your God in the desert; but you must not go very far away. Entreat Yehowah for me. 29 And Moses said, Now I will leave you, and will entreat Yehowah that the flies may depart from Pharaoh and his servants and his people tomorrow. But do not let Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more by not sending the people away to sacrifice to Yehowah. 30 So Moses left Pharaoh, and entreated Yehowah. 31 And Yehowah acted as Moses had said; and he removed the flies from Pharaoh and his servants and his people; not one remained. 32 Yet Pharaoh made his heart stubborn on this occasion also, and did not send the people away.
