EXODUS 14

Then Yehowah spoke to Moses, and said, 2 Tell the sons of Israel to turn aside and camp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; in front of Baal-zephon you shall camp by the sea. 3 For Pharaoh will say about the sons of Israel, They are entangled in the land; the desert has shut them in. 4 And I will make Pharaoh's heart obstinate, and he will pursue them; and I will have glory over Pharaoh and all his host; then the Egyptians shall know that I am Yehowah. And they did so.

5 And when it was told to the king of Egypt that the people had fled, the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was changed towards the people, and they said, What is this that we have done, sending Israel away from serving us? 6 Then he made his chariot ready, and took his people with him; 7 and he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, with captains over them all. 8 And Yehowah made the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt obstinate, and he pursued the sons of Israel; and the sons of Israel went out with their heads high.* 9 And the Egyptians pursued them, all the chariot-horses of Pharaoh and his horsemen and his host, and they overtook them camping by the sea, near Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon. * lit with a high hand

10 So when Pharaoh approached, the sons of Israel raised their eyes and saw the Egyptians marching after them, and they were greatly afraid; and the sons of Israel cried out to Yehowah. 11 And they said to Moses, Are there no graves in Egypt, since you have taken us away to die in the desert? What is this you have done to us, bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Is this not what we told you in Egypt, when we said, Leave us alone, and let us serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert. 13 But Moses said to the people, Do not be afraid; stand firm, and see the salvation of Yehowah, which he will work for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today you will never see again. 14 Yehowah will fight for you, and you shall be silent. 15 And Yehowah said to Moses, Why cry to me? Tell the sons of Israel to go on. 16 And you, raise your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it; for the sons of Israel shall go through the middle of the sea on dry ground. 17 And then I will make the hearts of the Egyptians obstinate, and they will go in after them; and I will have glory over Pharaoh and all his host, over his chariots and his horsemen. 18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am Yehowah, when I have gained glory over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.

19 Then the angel of God who went before the camp of Israel removed and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them, 20 and came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and there was cloud and darkness to the former, while it lit up the night for the latter. And the one did not come near the other all night.

21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and Yehowah drove the sea back by a strong east wind all that night, and he made the sea into dry ground; and the water was divided. 22 And the sons of Israel went through the middle of the sea on dry ground; and the water became a wall for them on their right and their left. 23 And the Egyptians pursued them, and went in after them through the middle of the sea, all Pharaoh's horses, chariots, and horsemen. 24 And then in the morning watch, Yehowah looked down on the camp of the Egyptians from the pillar of fire and of cloud, and troubled the camp of the Egyptians; 25 and he took off their chariot wheels, making them drive heavily; and the Egyptians said, Let us flee before Israel, for Yehowah fights for them against the Egyptians.

26 Then Yehowah said to Moses, Stretch out your hand over the sea, so that the water may come back on the Egyptians, their chariots, and their horsemen. 27 So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea came back in full flood when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled to meet it, and Yehowah overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28 And the water came back and covered the chariots and horsemen, even all Pharaoh's host that had followed them into the sea; not even one of them was left. 29 But the sons of Israel walked on dry ground through the middle of the sea; and the water was a wall for them on their right and their left.

30 In this way Yehowah saved Israel that day from the hands of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 And Israel saw the great work which Yehowah wrought against the Egyptians, and the people feared Yehowah; and they believed in Yehowah and his servant Moses.
