EXODUS 15

Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to Yehowah, and said,

I will sing to Yehowah, for he has gloriously exalted himself;

he has thrown the horse and its rider into the sea. 2 My strength and song is Yah, and he has become my salvation;

this is my God, and I will prepare him a habitation;

my father's God, and I will exalt him. 3 Yehowah is a man of war;

Yehowah is his name. 4 Pharaoh's chariots and his host he has thrown into the sea;

and his chosen captains are sunk in the Sea of Reeds. 5 The deeps covered them;

they went down into the depths like a stone. 6 Thy right hand, O Yehowah, is magnificent in power;

thy right hand, O Yehowah, dashes the enemy in pieces. 7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou dost overthrow those who rise up against thee;

thou dost send forth thy wrath, it consumes them like stubble. 8 And by the breath of thy nostrils the waters were piled up, the floods stood up in a heap;

the deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea. 9 The enemy said, I will pursue them, I will overtake them, I will divide the spoil; my appetite will be satisfied by them;

I will draw my sword, my hand shall drive them out. 10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them;

they sank like lead in the mighty waters.

11 Who is like thee among the gods, O Yehowah? Who is like thee, magnificent in holiness, to be venerated with praises, doing wonders? 12 Thou didst stretch out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.

13 In thy mercy thou hast led out the people whom thou hast redeemed;

thou hast guided them by thy strength to thy holy habitation. 14 The peoples have heard, they tremble;

pangs have taken hold of the inhabitants of Philistia. 15 Then were the chiefs of Edom dismayed;

the mighty men of Moab, quaking takes hold of them;

all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away. 16 Terror and dread fall on them;

by the greatness of thine arm they are as still as a stone;

till thy people pass over, O Yehowah, till the people whom thou hast acquired pass over. 17 Thou wilt bring them in, and plant them on the mountain of thine inheritance, a place for thy dwelling which thou hast made, O Yehowah;

a sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established. 18 Yehowah will reign for ever and ever.

19 For when Pharaoh's horses went with his chariots and horsemen into the sea, Yehowah brought the water of the sea back over them; but the sons of Israel walked on dry ground through the middle of the sea.

20 Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. 21 And Miriam sang to them,

Sing to Yehowah, for he has gloriously exalted himself;

he has thrown the horse and its rider into the sea.

22 Then Moses led Israel onwards from the Sea of Reeds, and they went out to the desert of Shur; and they went for three days in the desert and could not find any water. 23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink the water on account of its bitterness, for it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah.* 24 And the people grumbled against Moses, and said, What shall we drink? 25 And he cried to Yehowah; and Yehowah showed him a tree, and he threw it into the water, and the water was sweetened. There he established a statute and a regulation for him, and there he proved him. 26 And he said, If you will faithfully obey the voice of Yehowah your God, and do what is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will not put any of the diseases on you which I put on the Egyptians; for I am Yehowah, who heals you. * That is Bitterness

27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees; and they camped there beside the water.
