7. GENESIS

Then Yehowah said to Noah, Go into the ark, you and all your household; for I have seen you to be a just man before me in this generation. 2 Of every clean animal you shall take for yourself seven pairs, the male and its female;* and a pair of the animals that are not clean, the male and its female; 3 also of the birds of the heavens, seven pairs, male and female; to keep their kinds** alive on the face of all the earth. 4 For in seven days' time, I will cause it to rain upon the earth for forty days and forty nights; and I will wipe off the face of the ground every thing which I have made. 5 And Noah did according to all that Yehowah commanded him. * lit a man and his wife ** lit descendants

6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters came on the earth. 7 And Noah went into the ark with his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives, from before the waters of the flood. 8 The clean animals and the animals which are not clean, and the birds, and everything which creeps on the ground, 9 went into the ark with Noah in pairs, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. 10 And after seven days, the waters of the flood were on the earth.

11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on this day all the fountains of the great deep were split open, and the flood-gates of the heavens were opened. 12 And there was rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights. 13 On that very day Noah, and Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them went into the ark; 14 they, and every wild animal according to its kind, and all cattle according to their kinds, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth according to its kind, and every bird according to its kind, every small bird, every winged thing. 15 And they went into the ark with Noah in pairs, of all flesh in which there was the spirit of life. 16 And they who were going in, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and Yehowah shut him in.

17 And the flood was on the earth for forty days, and the waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it was lifted up from the earth. 18 And the waters prevailed, and increased greatly on the earth; and the ark went on the surface of the waters. 19 And the waters prevailed greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. 20 For fifteen cubits upwards the waters prevailed, and the mountains were covered. 21 And all flesh that crept on the earth expired, birds, cattle, wild animals, every swarming thing that swarmed on the earth, and every man; 22 everything died which had the breath of the spirit of life in its nostrils, of all which were on the dry land. 23 And he wiped out every being* which was on the face of the ground, both man and beast, and creeping things and birds of the heavens; and they were wiped out from the earth; and Noah alone remained, and those which were with him in the ark. 24 And the waters prevailed on the earth for a hundred and fifty days. * Other ancient manuscripts and versions read And every being was wiped out
