EXODUS 24

Then he said to Moses, Come up to Yehowah, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and bow down at a distance. 2 But only Moses shall come near to Yehowah; the others shall not come near, nor shall the people come up with him.

3 So Moses went and reported all Yehowah's words to the people, and all his civil laws; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which Yehowah has spoken we will do. 4 And Moses recorded all the words of Yehowah; then he got up early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 And he sent youths of the sons of Israel, and they offered burnt-offerings, and sacrificed communion-offerings of bulls to Yehowah. 6 And Moses took half of the blood and put it into basins, and flung half of the blood against the altar. 7 Then he took the scroll of the covenant, and read it in the ears of the people; and they said, All that Yehowah has spoken we will do and obey. 8 And Moses took the blood, and flung it over the people, and said, This is the blood of the covenant which Yehowah has made with you concerning all these things.

9 Then Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, 10 and they saw the God of Israel; and under his feet there was, as it were, a work of sapphire stone, like the sky itself for clearness. 11 But he did not stretch out his hand to the sons of Israel who had been left behind;* and they** looked at God, and ate and drank. * lit set aside ** That is, those with Moses

12 And Yehowah said to Moses, Climb up to me on the mountain, and wait there; and I will give you the tablets of stone, both the laws and the commandments, which I have written for their instruction. 13 So Moses arose with Joshua his minister, and Moses climbed the mountain of God. 14 And he said to the elders, Wait here for us until we come back to you; and see, Aaron and Hur are with you; if anyone has a dispute, let him go to them.

15 Then Moses climbed the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 16 And the glory of Yehowah settled down on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; and on the seventh day he called to Moses from the middle of the cloud. 17 And the appearance of the glory of Yehowah was like a devouring fire on top of the mountain, in the sight of the sons of Israel. 18 And Moses went into the middle of the cloud, and climbed the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.
